Good and soft soil is the best care start for a new tree or bush. The soil you dig up could be compact and this is not Good for the start growth of the tree. So be careful not to compact the soil. Compaction will hinder root growth. Be sure to keep the topmost area of the root ball exposed, about two inches. A layer of mulch will be applied here. The place where you buy the tree or bush ask them how much water it need and how you should water the plant. 

Frequent watering is much needed, especially if you are planting in the warmer months. Water thoroughly, but not too much water. Shallow watering promotes surface root growth, which will make the plant more susceptible to stress during a drought. 

You should always prune the bare roots of trees and shrubs during planting. In addition, pruning some of the top foliage can reduce the amount of water needed for the plant to establish.
