Fall Tree Inspection

Check your tree before the snow falls, Why? Fall is the ideal time to focus on tree care and maintenance, before the winter snow and ice arrive, potentially causing issues if the trees on your property are not structurally sound. A tree that is not structurally sound could fall on your Home, Sheds, Yard Furniture, people walking by and YOU.

As the leaves fall and reveal the trees’ bark and branches, take the time to look at the trees to check for defects, fungal growth or weak branches in their branching structures. If the branching structure isn’t strong or you notice a lot of weak branches, it could be an indication that the tree could sustain a considerable amount of damage over the winter. It is best to have a professional look over the tree. To look over the tree health and safely of the tree is safe to walk under and be around. Fall is the ideal time to focus on tree care and maintenance, before the winter snow and ice arrive, potentially causing issues if the trees on your property are not structurally sound. In the winter months the tree is at a weak point, if not taking care of before the snow and ice come. The tree could face great damage in branches falling to the ground, tree falling over or even splitting the tree in half. So, As the leaves fall and reveal the trees’ bark and branches, take the time to look at the trees to check for Defects, fungal growth or weak branches in their branching structures. If the branching structure isn’t strong or you notice a lot of weak branches, it could be an indication that the tree could sustain a considerable amount of damage over the winter.

In order to ensure your trees survive the winter, make sure to address any issues you notice as soon as possible. Below is a checklist of some structural patterns and problems to check for:

  • Branch decay and deadwood
  • Fungal growth or oozing sap
  • Unusual cracking in the bark
  • Splitting branches from storm damage or wind damage
  • Insect or disease affected branches
  • Hanging branches
  • Two branches originating from the same stem or crossing branches

A winter with a lot of snow and ice can cause a significant amount of damage to trees and if you notice one or more of these problems, your trees may not survive the winter.

Another plus is that winter-pruned plants are less susceptible to insect and disease problems. Pruning creates an open wound. Although the trees and shrubs is perfectly capable of healing itself, it can take several day. In the meantime, that open would, is time for invitation for insects, bacteria, and fungal spores to get inside the plant or tree. Because most insects and diseases are not active in the cold, winter weather, the trees and shrubs has time to recoup without the extra stress of fighting off a potential problems. The will give time for the Trees and Shrubs heal and when the spring comes should be much more healthier.

What to add a New Tree or Bush

Now when you decided to plant a new tree or shrub you must look at the roots of the bushes or trees are healthy is by the root development.  For It takes time for roots to start the growth, this can take several months for roots to establish, and newly planted trees and shrubs do not have a very strong root system. Keep this in mind that the roots will have two different ways of growth. One way is that the tree roots growth gos’ straight down and deep. The second type roots growth go out wide. Find out witch type of tree root you have straight and deep or low and wide. For the wide root system needed more space to have a healthy life. Too close to the home, the tree could damage your home or effect other plants and trees.

Start by digging the hole in a popcorn bowl shape. Once planted, backfill around the root system. What I like to do is to being in new top soil and add fertilizer at the bottom of hole. Good and soft soil is the best care start for a new tree or bush. The soil you dig up could be compact and this is not Good for the start growth of the tree. So be careful not to compact the soil. Compaction will hinder root growth. Be sure to keep the topmost area of the root ball exposed, about two inches. A layer of mulch will be applied here. The place where you buy the tree or bush ask them how much water it need and how you should water the plant.

Frequent watering is much needed, especially if you are planting in the warmer months. Water thoroughly, but not too much water. Shallow watering promotes surface root growth, which will make the plant more susceptible to stress during a drought.

You should always prune the bare roots of trees and shrubs during planting. In addition, pruning some of the top foliage can reduce the amount of water needed for the plant to establish.

Newly planted trees and shrubs often have a difficult time establishing if the root system cannot be held in place.

Now where you live have have-strong winds or long rain time, this strong winds and rain can cause the plant to tip over. Avoid this by staking the plant for temporary support. A good rule of thumb for plant staking is if the trunk diameter measures three inches or less. Tie the stake to the plant at every six inches from the top. However, only tie the trunk at one spot. Don’t tie too tightly, so that the tree has no flexibility. This will stunt the growth of the plant. Keep moving the tie spots on the tree so there will be no weak spot on the tree. Keep any rubber ties on the tree for a long time can cause problemLarger trees and shrubs will need diameter staking with wire support. Four stakes evenly spaced at six feet around the trunk is a good arrangement. Each stake can be attached to the tree just above the mid-point using cable or wire. Be sure to cover the wire around the trunk with a short piece of hose to prevent any scarring of the bark. The wire should be snug, but not tight.

When you to add a new tree to your yard, you needed ask the salesperson or look up how big this tree will be. This means how tall and how wide the tree, Will be in 5, 10 and 20 years. Reason I am saying this? One thing is that I am in the business of taking down many trees. I have been told by customer so many time

I planted this tree I didn’t think this would get this big, this tree is tp big and my house is danger, kill the grass under the tree. And there are other reasons
